How does that saying…” Nothing's Off the Table” fit into my Supported Self Management Plan?
I personally got to a point a few times in my life’s journey to change tactics with two different health conditions, where I not only trird but actually embrace and do new skills. Both incorporated learning Supported Self Management skill.
The saying “Nothing’s Off the Table” can be interpreted as an encouragement to explore all our options and possibilities without restrictions when it comes to problem-solving and decision-making. In the context of a Supported Self Management Plan, this phrase can be particularly relevant in several ways:
Openness to New Strategies:
It suggests that we should consider a wide range of new strategies and tools for managing our health and well-being. Whether it's lifestyle modifications, medication management, or alternative therapies, all options should be openly discussed and considered.
Flexibility in our Approach:
Recognising that no approach is one-size-fits-all allows you to adapt your plan based on what works best for us. It encourages ongoing evaluation and adjustment of our self management plan as needed.
Collaborative Dialogue:
Incorporating “nothing’s off the table” promotes open communication with our healthcare providers, support networks, and family. It invites honest conversations about our challenges, preferences, and unconventional ideas that might improve your management plan.
Empowerment in Decision-Making:
By embracing this mindset, we empower ourselves to take control of our health journey. It allows us to assess and choose methods that align with our values, needs, and circumstances without feeling constrained by traditional expectations.
Creative Problem-Solving:
This saying encourages thinking outside the box when faced with obstacles. It invites us to identify innovative solutions and resources that could be beneficial in managing our health.
Overall, incorporating the ethos of “nothing’s off the table” into our Supported Self Management Plan means embracing flexibility, creativity, and openness in managing our health, which can lead to more personalised and effective outcomes.
