Does Supported Self Management start when we reach out for help?

May 10, 2026

In my opinion supported self-management often begins when a a person reaches out for help. But there are times when someone needs a nudge or at least told about ‘Supported Self Management.’

Supported Self Management emphasises the importance of actively involving people / others in their own care, empowering them to take charge of their health or situation with the support of healthcare professionals or support systems.

When someone seeks assistance, it typically marks the first step in a collaborative process where individuals can learn about their conditions, explore treatment options, and develop strategies to manage their health. The goal is to equip them with the knowledge and tools they need to make informed decisions and take proactive steps in managing their health, with guidance and support from professionals.
